for couples and households
Six accounts. Two people.
One rebalance plan.
Her 401(k). His IRA. The joint brokerage and the kids' 529. Each one looks fine on its own and nobody knows what the household actually holds. PerkFolio shows it as one portfolio and turns the drift into a single list of what to sell and buy, and in whose account.
sound familiar?
“We both hold the same index fund and had no idea we were 70% in it.”
“Rebalancing means logging into five sites and texting each other numbers.”
“I don't want to hand my partner's login to some app.”
You don't need a shared login or a joint app that can trade. You need one honest picture and a list you can split between you.
how it works
Three steps. Then you place the trades.
Each of you connects read-only
No shared passwords. Every connection can only read balances and positions, never place an order.
Set one household target
Group accounts into pies by goal: retirement, house, kids. Nest them under one target for the whole household.
Split the list
The plan names the account for every action, so each of you knows exactly what to do at your own broker. Print it and put it on the fridge.
what changes
Account-by-account actions
“Sell 12 VTI in the Roth IRA. Buy 34 BND in the 401(k).” Each line says whose account and how much.
No trading permission, ever
PerkFolio has no code path that places an order. It can't trade in your account or your partner's.
One reminder for both
Schedule the household check. The plan goes to both of your inboxes and phones the same morning.
Goals as pies
Retirement, house fund, college: separate targets, one total, drift measured where you actually care.
why read-only
We can't trade. That's the point.
Tools that can move your money need your trust, your API keys and a very good security team. PerkFolio needs none of that, because the worst it can do is show you a number.
No order code. Anywhere.
PerkFolio has no code path that places, previews or cancels an order. Not disabled. Not behind a flag. Absent.
Read-only connections
Brokerage and exchange links are opened with read scopes. Balances and positions come in. Nothing goes out.
You keep the keys
The plan lists exact units, amounts and accounts. You log in to your broker and place each trade yourself. Then mark it done.
questions
Can PerkFolio move my money?+
No. Connections are read-only and PerkFolio has no order-placement code at all. It reads balances and positions, works out what to sell and buy, and hands you the list. You place the trades at your broker.
Do we need two PerkFolio accounts?+
One works. Each partner connects their own brokerages from the same PerkFolio account, and every connection stays read-only. Separate logins are on the roadmap.
What if only one of us wants to rebalance?+
Pies are per goal, not per person. Put the accounts you both agree on under the household target and leave the rest as their own pie.
What does it cost?+
